“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?”
-Rabbi Hillel HaGadol
I feel that we must maintain a desire to improve in our increasingly complex, divisive, and upside-down world. I help to shape my community through leadership and participation in various community service events.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee
Second Harvest’s mission is to feed hungry people and work to solve hunger issues in our community. I led a team of ten at the Second Harvest Food Bank to prepare meals for the less fortunate in the Nashville metropolitan area. We then packaged the meals to safely distribute them to families in need.
Project Linus
Project Linus provided love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” I organized and led a team of four cadet blanketeers to produce blankets for children in need.
Cooper Trooper Foundation
The Cooper Trooper Foundation’s mission is to fight against childhood cancer. For the Cooper Trooper Foundation, I led a team of 15 cadets with their “The Pumpkin Patch” event. 100% of the profit from this fundraiser went to the Cooper Trooper Foundation to support their mission of funding pediatric cancer research through a fund set up with Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Nashville Diaper Connection
The Nashville Diaper Connection strives to ensure that every baby in Nashville has enough diapers to remain clean, dry and healthy. Outside of my JROTC events, I taught twenty children at my Temple about the importance of kindness and volunteerism by taking part in charitable activities; the importance of giving back to their community; and the importance of helping those who are less fortunate. Together we packaged and grouped diapers into boxes for distribution to families in need.
